Dear Ottawa Community,
Kind Space is utterly disgusted by and wholeheartedly condemns the racism, threats of sexual violence, physical violence, homophobic and transphobic antagonism, anti-sematism, islamophobia, intimidation, and environmental destruction the “Freedom Convoy” has committed in the downtown core of Ottawa and to the residents and workers in Centretown.
We are encouraged by the resilience and mutual aid residents have coordinated together through another unprecedented time, on top of the ongoing, and very real, COVID-19 pandemic. While Kind Space’s resources are limited, we can offer tangible support through the distribution of funds from the ROSE Ottawa fundraiser.
On the evening of Monday, January 31, 2022 we were contacted by ROSE Ottawa organizers about the potential to take on receipt and distribution of the funds from the Ottawa Community Care Fund fundraiser [https://www.gofundme.com/f/ottawa-community-care-fund]. On Tuesday the board of directors agreed to the request and on Wednesday Kind Space began the transfer process from GoFundMe.
Since the spring of 2020, we have been offering financial support through our own Community Care Fund and have the capacity and infrastructure to distribute the donations from this fundraiser. This money is separate from our regular Community Care Fund.
Who can apply
As stated in the GoFundMe:
“This fundraiser aims to raise [money] to help marginalized people (2SLGBTQIA+, BIPOC, Disabled, etc) recuperate and recover from this protest. Examples include:
- Reimbursing or covering fees related to rescheduling appointments.
- Help cover the cost of repairing damage to your home that your landlord won’t cover.
- Covering part of the cost of an appointment with a therapist regarding trauma related to the protest.
- Support the purchase of clean-up supplies for community groups that wish to undo the littering caused by the protestors.”
How much is available
The fundraiser raised, after GoFundMe fees, a total of $4,299.89. Applicants can apply for $50 or $100.
