Every month come enjoy the company of some fluffy felines in the Kind lounge with coffee, tea and cuddles. The visiting kitties from J’s Animal Rescue may be available for adoption. (Persons with allergies to cats: please see the allergen alert below.)
Although cat cafés are relatively new to North America, they’ve been popular for years elsewhere in the world, and with good reason. Cat companionship has been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety and to lower blood pressure. Purring in particular “has been linked to lowering stress, decreasing symptoms of Dyspnoea, lessening the chances of having a heart attack, and even strengthening bones.” Learn more about the health benefits of companion animals.
To help ensure the comfort of kitties and humans alike, please respect the following guidelines:
Do not tease, chase or strike the animals.
Approach cats calmly and slowly with your hand extended.
Respect kitty consent: release a cat when it wants to be let go and if a cat is hiding or keeping its distance, let it be.
The cats will be provided with food and water, toys, climbing trees and litter boxes. Kind staff and volunteers will supervise the event, clean the space before and after the event, and use furniture covers.
If you have severe feline allergies, this program may not be for you. Persons with moderate allergies who wish to participate will find an abundance of tissues onsite; however, Kind nor J’s Animal Rescue are responsible for any allergic reactions you may experience. Please bring any medication you require to manage your condition. When the café is over, we will make every effort to reduce the amount of hair and dander present in the space.
