Saph, Director

Saph Parchment is a 23 year old Carleton University graduate with a passion for community work. Since the age of 12, Saph has been dedicated to the betterment of the people in her community, being team leader for united way action grants to secure recreational programming for kids in her neighbourhood Pinecrest Terrace, an Ottawa Community Housing project. She was an active participant of the Jaku Konbit academy, working with her peers on projects like the African-Canadian Mobile Display and GreenStar Enterprise.

She graduated high school in 2010, receiving the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Volunteer award for her exemplary commitment to community volunteering, with over 150 hours of volunteer work. In 2010, Shynise graduated from Carleton University with honours receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Saph continues her work in her communities as vice president of Jaku Konbit, and in Kind, where she sits on the board of directors, and facilitates a group for queer people of colour.

Saph is also on the advisory board for Youth Research and Exchange (YouthREX) Eastern Ontario hub, where she helps youth serving organizations with tools for better evaluation and research on their programming.
