Joanne Farrall is a Vanier scholar and PhD student in the Carleton School of Journalism and Communication. Using an anti-racist feminist lens she is researching the ways ordinary social media posts of victims of violence are repurposed for political purposes by different actors (for example: trolls, activists, and the government). As the parent of two kids and a small fluffy dog, Jo is often found hiking around Ottawa trails with her family.
She belongs to a variety of nerdy fandoms including SFF, anime, Doctor Who, and Steven Universe, with levels of commitment ranging from squeeing loudly whenever the thing she loves is mentioned, to binge reading/watching them and then obsessively blogging (and re-blogging) about them.
She’s been an activist and advocate since she was a teenager and is thrilled for the opportunity to work with Kind Space.
